solon borglumKen and Deb Harders have always had a passion for preserving the history of the area. They have been strong supporters of the Cairo Roots Museum. Recently they shared with the Foundation their latest project. Ken and Deb and several other dedicated patrons are raising funds to create a historical marker and turnout on Highway 2 approximately 6 miles west of Cairo in recognizing the works of the Borglum Brothers. Solon Borglum carved huge Native American figures in the Cairo bluffs. Those carvings may have inspired his older brother John “Gutzon” Borglum to carve Mount Rushmore years later.

Ken and Deb have established a fund with the Cairo Community Foundation allowing those interested to make tax deductible donations to this project. If you would like to donate to this project please send funds to Cairo Community Foundation, PO Box 603, Cairo, NE 68824.  You may also leave your donation at the Village Office.  Your donation to this fund is tax deductible.
You may also donate online using your credit or debit card via Paypal.
