One of the first programs the Cairo Community Foundation sponsored was Progressive Agriculture Safety Day. That program serves children in ten communities. 120 children attended the event in 2017, learning about topics including PTO safety, fire safety and water safety. Every child received a Josh the Otter Safety book sponsored by Pathway Bank. Cabela’s provided deep discounts to provide each child with a life jacket. Farm Credit Services provided numerous volunteers and provides strong financial support for this program. A grant from Cargill is guaranteeing this programs continues for several years.

A grant from the Koepp Foundation and a grant from the Foundation’s general fund assisted the Cairo Children’s Theater Committee to bring Missoula Montana Theater Company to town during Cornstalk Festival week teaching 30 children team work and self esteem through the art of theater.

These students took the stage performing a rendition of “Rapunzel.” The kids brought the house down during their Saturday performances. This program is coming back for another season and will continue into 2019 as a result of a grant from Cargill.

Safety Day and children’s theater are just the beginning for summer programming. Working with Centura and other community volunteers additional summer programs are being developed. What if we could teach our youth to be entrepreneurs? Would they stay in the community? What if we taught our children basic cooking, auto repair, robotics, coding? Would they be better prepared individuals? Educating our youth is important to the community and therefore important to the Foundation.

The Foundation has created a Children’s Programming Fund. The Foundation’s goal is to endow this fund when is reaches $5,000. Interest from the fund is used to support youth programming well into the future. If children’s education is important to you, please consider a gift to this fund during Go Big Give on May 3rd at
