Cairo Community Foundation is gaining in strength and its support of the Cairo Community. This year Cairo Community Foundation provided grants for new seating at the Cairo Swimming Pool, funded a grant for the continued development of the Lego Robotics Club, and provided funding towards the purchase and modification of an equipment trailer for the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to grants made the Foundation has created several funds to make it possible for donors to give to their passions and support projects that are in development. Project funds created this year include: Borglum Historical Marker Project, Progressive Agriculture Safety Day for children, Cairo Veterans Memorial, Cairo Library Development Fund, and the Cairo Ball Association.
Cairo Community Foundation has already impacted the community by being a financial fundraising tool for these projects. The Borglum fund has generated enough money to support portion of their project. The Borglum Historical Marker was purchased and will be installed shortly on Highway 2. Progressive Agriculture Safety Day fund has received a grant from Cargill Inc. to supply up to 200 children with hands on safety education at its event on June 7th. The Veterans’ Memorial fund continues to see steady donations to aid in completion of its memorial. The Cairo Ball Association fund will be utilized to improve the South Ball Field.
For more than 30 years, New Hope has taught students ABC’s & 123’s with a Christ centered focus.
For the last 2 years New Hope’s enrollment has steadily increased. The enrollment has grown so much that two years ago New Hope expanded into a second building for kindergarten, which is known to the students as New Hope North. In actuality, New Hope North is really Apfel Funeral Home located just north of the current school.
Another challenge New Hope faces is the lack of indoor gym and activity space. The current New Hope building is several blocks from the Baptist Church and Cairo Community Center which offer their facilities for use to New Hope. In poor weather students must recess, lunch, conduct PE, music, and every other activity at their desks. It is simply not feasible to leave the confines of the current building to poor weather to travel to other facilities.
The New Hope Board recognizes that no matter how resourceful and resilient their students are the problem is simply a lack of space. New Hope will embark on the building of a new facility to accommodate their current enrollment and allow for expansion for an enrollment of up to 75 children. To fund the build, New Hope School is launching its, “Building Hope” Campaign. You can participate in the Building Hope Campaign with your donation during “Go Big Give.”
Go Big Give to Grow Cairo
Cairo Community Foundation and New Hope School is participating in the annual Go Big GIVE which is a 24 hour, online giving event organized by the Grand Island Community Foundation and Heartland United Way.
The annual Go Big GIVE will be held from midnight to midnight on Friday, May 3rd. Last year, the Go Big GIVE event raised over $511,000 in the 24-hour event for nonprofits in Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick counties.
It is the goal of the Go Big Give organizers to provide $75,000 in matching funds and prize money to nonprofits participating in this year’s event. As a donor during Go Big Give your donations to nonprofits like Cairo Community Foundation and New Hope School make those nonprofits eligible to receive a portion of the matching funds pools, possible hourly incentive prizes, and other incentives for meeting a variety of criteria. Funds raised for Cairo Community Foundation can be directed to the general fund or any of the specialized projects funds. Funds generated through Go Big Give for New Hope School will be directed towards the building of their new school facility.
